What Are The Process?
Your blood travels through soft tubing into the dialyzer — a filter containing thousands of thin membranes. These membranes let waste and extra fluid pass out of your blood while keeping the cells and proteins your body needs. Blood flows through this circuit at a controlled, closely monitored rate throughout your session.
Before your session starts, you’ll need vascular access already in place — either a fistula, a graft, or a catheter. Fistulas and grafts use two needles inserted at the start and removed at the end of treatment. A catheter is a soft tube placed in a larger vein, giving direct access without needles.
You’ll be seated or reclined comfortably for the full session — many patients read, nap, listen to music, or catch up on work while connected. Our nursing team checks in regularly to monitor you and the machine, and any medication needed is given directly through the line. At the end, you’ll be safely disconnected by our care team.
Dialysis shouldn’t hurt, but some tiredness afterward is common. Eating well and staying active can help keep your energy up. If you notice nausea, dizziness, or cramping during a session, tell your care team — they will help you manage it.
